Although Feyenoord qualified for the third preliminary round of the Conference League on Thursday, trainer Arne Slot was shocked by the way his team showed up against FC Drita.

The team from Rotterdam won 3-2, but gave away a lot of opportunities.

"Almost every attack from Drita presented an opportunity, we gave away a good number of them," Slot analyzed at

"Whether that is because we defended so poorly or that the opponent was a little better than we thought, we will have to look closely at that in the coming period."

The fact that Feyenoord is allowed to continue a round thanks to three goals from Guus Til - of which the liberating 3-2 only fell in the very last minute - is somewhat against the ratio, according to Slot.

"We were a bit lucky. Maybe a bit much. I expected that we would continue more easily, but it had to come from very far. In any case, it was not a boring game."

Slot protects Fer

Feyenoord took the lead early in De Kuip, but not much later faced a surprising 1-2 deficit.

Leroy Fer, who was in an unusual position for him as a central defender, played an unfortunate role in this.

"He played right center back because I don't have another player there now," Slot explained his choice.

"He has never had to do that before in his career. He made a mistake, but I really want to protect him."

In the second half, Feyenoord escaped unscathed thanks to Til, although Drita again missed a number of imposed opportunities with a score of 2-2.

"Fortunately we have a very good keeper", Slot praised the crucial saves performing Justin Bijlow.

"Then it also seems that you are more lucky than your opponent."
