What you missed last night: Maxime Grousset at the foot of the 100m freestyle podium, Caeleb Dressel king of the sprint.

It is THE most prestigious race in swimming, and a Frenchman almost achieved a huge feat.

But 22-year-old Maxime Grousset finished in a frustrating fourth place in the 100m freestyle.

It was Caeleb Dressel, the American star, who won the sprint in 47 sec 02 / 100th, ahead of the Australian Kyle Chalmers (47.08), Olympic champion in 2016, and the Russian Kliment Kolesnikov (47.44).

For his first Olympic Games, Maxime Grousset completed the 100m with an excellent 47.72.

Not enough, unfortunately, to be the first French to win a medal in the sprint since Alain Bernard, titled in 2008 in Beijing.

Not enough to mitigate the immense happiness of the two French women: "When we cross the line, we do not really know how many we are. And when I see the panel (of the results), I say to myself 'it's not true they have must have been wrong. It was a big dream "for us, reacted Laura Tarantola at the microphone of France Televisions after the race.

Their silver medal comes on top of the gold medal of Matthieu Androdias and Hugo Boucheron, won on Wednesday as a couple.
