Kuwaiti Al-Faihan and Lebanese Basil fail to win a medal in Olympic shooting

Kuwaiti Abdul Rahman Al-Faihan failed to win any medal in the final of the pit (trap) shooting competition today at the Tokyo Summer Olympics. Al-Fayhan reached the final, which included six shooters, after he succeeded in qualifying from the qualifying rounds after a competition that included 29 participants. In the first round of the final, shooters must hit the largest number of 25 bowls to qualify for the next round, but Al-Fayhan ranked last among the six with only 18 bowls to get out of the competition first.

The Czechs, Jiri Liptak and David Kostelecki, went to the decisive round, where they achieved an Olympic record with their injuries in the final 43 bytes, before they decided to the play-off (the one who fails the injury loses first), which Liptak 7-6 in his favour. Britain's Matthew John Coward Holly won the bronze. Al-Fayhan had finished the five qualifying rounds, which were held on Wednesday and Thursday, with 123 injuries, out of 125, similar to four shooters, to directly guarantee qualification to the finals, accompanied by leader Liptak (124/125). Six shooters tied in the qualifiers (122/125) fought a play-off for a sixth and final seat, among them the other Kuwaiti Talal Al-Rashidi, who was betrayed by one bowl (122 + 16) to complete the Mexican Jorge Martin Orosco Dias (122 + 17) qualifiers contract.

Among the women, the Lebanese Ray Bassil and the Egyptian Maguy Ashmawi failed to reach the finals after hitting the first 114/125 and the second 113/125.

Meanwhile, Slovakian Zuzana Rehak Števichikova set a world record in qualifying by achieving a full mark 125/125, before going on and achieving an Olympic record in the final (43 bowls) on her way to gold.

The silver went to American Kyle Browning and the bronze to Alessandra Pirelli of San Marino.
