The brain damage resulting from the disaster having induced a predisposition to this pathology, justice concluded that he is the 97th victim to have lost his life in this case, announced Thursday the British press agency PA.

In a statement Wednesday, the Liverpool club said it was "deeply saddened" by the death of Andrew Devine and paid tribute to a "lifelong supporter".

Rush on an already overcrowded grandstand

The crowd movement took place on April 15, 1989 in Sheffield, in the north of England, on the occasion of the semi-final of the FA Cup between the Reds and Nottingham Forest.

As Liverpool supporters crowded past the turnstiles as the kick-off approached, security had a door opened leading to the wing reserved for them, to ease the pressure.

But fans had rushed to an already overcrowded grandstand.

The crowd movement had initially resulted in the death of 94 people, compressed against the gates on the outskirts of the field before two other people, then Andrew Devine, succumbed.
