“You have to take camel drivers” … a German official was expelled from the Olympics after a racist comment against an Algerian and an Eritrean

German Olympic officials asked the sporting director of the German Cycling Federation on Thursday to leave the Tokyo Games and return home after video footage showed him making a racist comment during the men's time trial on Wednesday.

"The mission officials at the Tokyo Olympics have decided to terminate Patrick Muster's assignment with the German cycling team and he will return to the country," the German delegation said in a statement.

Muster made the comments during a time trial to cheer one of the German runners.

"You have to go with them," he shouted enthusiastically at German racer Nikias Arnett, while chasing Algerian Azzedine Laakab and Eritrean Emmanuel Gebergabeer: "You have to go with them... Take care of the camel drivers."

Muster later apologized for the comments.

Arendt finished 19th in the time trial, 3 minutes 45 seconds behind Slovenian gold-winning Primoz Roglic.
