It was after the match between South Korea's Jeoung Young-sik (who won) and the Greek Panagiotis Gionis that the event occurred.

After being asked about the skill of South Korean table tennis players, the experienced journalist said "their eyes are so narrow, so I can not understand how they can see how the ball goes back and forth".

The statement spread quickly, and a couple of hours later, the Greek state-owned TV channel ERT sent out a press release.

"Racist comments do not fit on public television," they wrote, announcing that they had ended their collaboration with the journalist, with immediate effect.
