Virgil van Dijk is about to return after more than nine months after a serious knee injury.

The Liverpool defender has been included in the squad for Thursday's friendly game against Hertha BSC by manager Jürgen Klopp.

"I hope there will be an opportunity where Virgil can get some minutes," said Klopp.

"But I'm not sure yet. He does make a good impression in the training sessions and maybe we can still bring him. But I have to have some final conversations before that. He seems to be ready. We'll see."

Thirty-year-old Van Dijk suffered a serious knee injury in October last year in the Premier League game against Everton after an awkward action by Everton keeper Jordan Pickford.

He then underwent surgery.

Due to the serious cruciate ligament injury, Van Dijk had to cancel the European Championship in June.

In the absence of the captain, the European final tournament went dramatically for the Orange.

In the eighth finals, the Netherlands was eliminated by the Czech Republic, after which national coach Frank de Boer drew his conclusions.

Van Dijk at training camp in Austria

Van Dijk is currently with Liverpool at a training camp in Austria.

The defender has not yet participated in a few exhibition games of 'The Reds', but has been in training for a while.

Joe Gomez, who suffered a serious knee injury, also seems to be making his comeback against Hertha BSC.

During the training camp, Van Dijk made himself heard about the upcoming appointment of Louis van Gaal as the national coach of the Dutch national team.

The defender spoke to a British journalist from the

medium via Twitter

about an article about Orange, in which he and Georginio Wijnaldum, among others, would oppose the arrival of Van Gaal.

After the friendly game with the Bundesliga club, Liverpool will not be back in action until August 8.

Klopp's team will then take on the Spanish Athletic Club.

'The Reds' open the new Premier League season on August 14 with an away game against newly promoted Norwich City.
