The 34-year-old hill hinted already in May that he could have played his last NHL game and this weekend the North American media wrote that this will be the case.

Something Hjalmarsson now confirms.

- The NHL career is over.

There will be no more games.

It is something that has emerged over a long period of time.

There is not the same hunger anymore and I want to choose to quit myself before being sent out of the league.

I feel very good in my body and it is something I really value to do even after my career.

Therefore, this feels like the right time to stop, says the 34-year-old to Smålands-Tidningen.

Successful with Chicago

Hjalmarsson is known as a defensive back with a sacrificial style of play.

He was most successful in Chicago where he played ten seasons and won the Stanley Cup on three occasions.

He spent the last four seasons in Arizona where he was an assistant team captain.

In 821 regular season games in the NHL, he scored 172 points on 25 goals and 147 assists.

Hjalmarsson also participated and took silver at the Olympics in Sochi 2014.
