Tunisia is definitely striking a blow at the start of the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games. After Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi's silver medal in taekwondo, Ahmed Hanaoui, 18, created a huge surprise in swimming on July 25.

The Tunisian won gold in the 400m freestyle.

A distance traditionally dominated by Americans, Australians or Chinese.

This Sunday, however, Ahmed Hanaoui was ahead in 3 minutes, 43 seconds and 36 hundredths, the Australian Jack McLoughlin (3 min. 43 sec. 52) and the American Kieran Smith (3 min. 43 sec. 94).

Like Osama Mellouli?

So far, Ahmed Hafnaoui had especially distinguished himself at the 2018 African Championships in Algiers.

Here he is already propelled into the legend of Tunisian sport and African swimming, alongside his compatriot Oussama Mellouli (two gold medals and one bronze medal at the Olympic Games).

Note that the revelation of this beginning of competition in swimming should also be aligned on 800m.
