Early on Monday morning, for the first time in this Olympics, a Nordic athlete won a medal in the Tokyo Olympics.

It went to the Norwegian 27-year-old Kristian Blummenfelt, who with a reassuring distance behind the British Alex Yee could jubilantly run over the finish line first of all.

Norway's first triathlon champion

Blummenfelt thus became not only the first Nordic medalist in the Tokyo Olympics.

He also became Norway's first Olympic medalist in triathlon.

Previously, only one Nordic triathlete had won an Olympic medal: Lisa Nordén, who took silver in 2012, after the Swiss Nicola Spirig was crowned champion after a goal photo.
