Frenchman Hugo Gaston (155th worldwide), who surprised in 2020 by qualifying for the round of 16 at Roland Garros, qualified at 20 for the first final of an ATP tournament of his career on the clay courts of Gstaad, beating Serbian Laslo Djere (52nd) 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the semi-final on Saturday.
He will meet in the final of this ATP 250 the Norwegian Casper Ruud, 14th in the world and big customer on this surface where he obtained excellent results this year (semi-finals in Rome and Madrid ...), or the surprising Czech Vit Kopriva (249th world), out of qualifying.
Gaston is the third Frenchman this year to reach an ATP tournament final after Pierre Hugues Herbert, who lost to Russian Daniil Medvedev in Marseille in March, and Hugo Humbert, winner of Russian Andreï Rublev on the turf of Halle in June.
