In the qualifying for the men's 400-meter individual medley of the Tokyo Olympics, Daiya Seto finished in 4: 10.52 and was eliminated from the qualifying in 9th place overall.

Seto "I can't believe it myself"

Daiya Seto, who missed the final, said, "I swam in the qualifying while making sure I had practiced so far, but I can't believe it myself. The final line was fast, "he recalled.

On top of that, I could see that he was trying to change his mind, saying, "I want to make sure that the second 200-meter race will advance to the finals."

Miss the final advance in the favorite event

Daiya Seto was recovering his condition after the motivation declined due to the postponement of the Olympics and the period of suspension of activities due to women's problems, but he missed the final with 9th place in the qualifying in his favorite event.

Seto faced the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games as the champion who won the world championships in a row in this event, but ended up with a bronze medal and has been planning for the Tokyo Games over four years.

He set a new world record for short waterways with his favorite butterfly and set a new personal best many times, and he maintained his good performance toward the summer of 2020, which was "I met him in a desperate manner", but the tournament was postponed. After that, he was not motivated and he gained more than 5 kg at one point.

After entering this year, he gradually recovered with the support of support members who gathered at the invitation of Seto, such as coach Rui Ichiro Ura, a high school classmate. He won the championship at 9:02 and was the first candidate for the gold medal.

On the other hand, due to the influence of the blank, there was a wave in the condition until just before, and I was not able to get rid of my fatigue, and I also had a problem that I could not sufficiently strengthen the endurance that is indispensable for the race to escape in the final stage.

Taking advantage of the local event, I held a highland training camp in Nagano prefecture until 3 days before the race, and I was in good physical condition, but I did not reach the gold medal that I had longed for.

Seto is also planning to participate in the 200m butterfly and 200m individual medley, and will readjust from here to win the long-sought gold medal.
