Today, the UAE champions begin a new participation in the Olympic Games through the 32nd edition, which will be held in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, and witness the emergence of the UAE's stars, through five athletes in athletics, swimming, judo and archery.

These five athletes join 71 athletes who have participated in the previous Olympics since 1984, during which the UAE achieved a historic gold medal in the 2004 Athens Games, and a bronze medal in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.

The UAE is represented in the Tokyo Games by Saif bin Fattis in shooting (skeet), Mohammed Hassan Al-Nubi in athletics, through the 100-meter race, Youssef Al-Matrooshi in swimming, Ivan Romanenko and Victor Sktov in judo.

Out of 10 tournaments, and 76 athletes, including the current one in Tokyo, the start was in 1984 in Los Angeles, when seven athletes appeared in athletics.

Athletics and swimming are considered the most represented by the Emirates in the Olympic Games, as they appeared in nine out of the 10 tournaments in which the UAE sport was found. Athletics fell behind in the Seoul Games 1988, while swimming was absent from the first session in Los Angeles 1984.

The shooting game succeeded in reserving a fixed seat in the last six tournaments, specifically starting in 1996, and was the only gold for the Emirates in this sport through the coronation of Sheikh Ahmed bin Hasher Al Maktoum in Athens 2004. Judo also booked a place in the last tournaments, and succeeded in obtaining Bronze medal in Rio de Janeiro 2016, by Toma in the weight of 81 kg.

Football participated in only one edition, which was in London 2012, and the team presented good levels before leaving the tournament, and the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 sessions were the most in terms of participation from the Emirates, where there were seven sports, and the 2016 session came second with six sports.

It will be remarkable the absence of women's participation for the UAE delegation in the current session, after it was the beginning of women's participation in the Olympic Games since the 2008 Beijing Games, and continued until 2016. Fatima Al Hosani was absent from the Tokyo Games, after she was scheduled to participate in the discus throwing competitions.
