The Olympic inauguration ended in the usual order with the fire being lit.

There has long been speculation about who would get the credit, and it became the Japanese world star Naomi Osaka.

The 23-year-old tennis player, second in the world rankings, has struggled with mental illness, linked to anxiety to speak in front of the media and answer questions.

Osaka has withdrawn from both the French Open and Wimbledon earlier this year because of it.

"The truth is that I have had long battles with depression since the US Open 2018 and had a very difficult time dealing with it," Osaka wrote earlier this summer.
