The Olympic fire is burning!

Four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka takes the credit and lights the Olympic flame!

The flame is transferred from person to person.

The flame is brought in by two former Olympic champions and then handed over to a nurse and a doctor.

Everything revolves around the corona pandemic.

Then it is the turn of a Paralympic athlete, who hands the torch to a group of Japanese children.

All Olympic sports at these Games were discussed in a comical way.

This also applies to the brand new Olympic sport of skateboarding!

The Olympic fire is about to be lit!

The Japanese direction now takes us to a traditional Japanese kabuki act, accompanied by jazz music on the piano.

It is now the turn of Thomas Bach, the President of the International Olympic Committee: "Today is a moment of hope, it is different from what we imagined, but we are all together at last. We want to express our thanks to the people of Japan, we are here thanks to you."

He also thanks all Japanese volunteers in Japanese.

We listen to the chairman of the Japanese organizing committee, Seiko Hashimoto welcome the world to Tokyo and talk about overcoming the many problems during the corona crisis.

Host nation Japan is the last to enter the Olympic Stadium.

There are the Americans, we see Sue Bird and Eddy Alvares as the flag bearer.

Bird is on the basketball team and Alvares represents the United States in baseball.

We are nearing the end with the 194th country, Latvia won 27 medals at the various summer games.

The flag bearer is well known for sports enthusiasts, Jelena Ostapenko reached the final at Wimbledon in 2019.

We have arrived at our southern neighbors, they are the 164th country of this opening.

Athlete Nafissatou Thiam and hockey player Felix Denayer carry the flag for Belgium.

Thiam won Olympic gold in the heptathlon in Rio.

We now see Team ROC (Russian Olympic Committee) which consists of Russian athletes, who, despite the country's doping suspension, are still allowed to participate in the Games.

The name Russia, the Russian flag and the Russian national anthem are banned and so the athletes come under the Olympic flag.

Protests were held outside the Tokyo stadium on Friday in the run-up to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

The protesters are angry that the sporting event is going ahead.

They fear that the Games will lead to many infections, despite the strict corona measures that have been taken.

Churandy Martina and Keet Oldenbeuving enter the Tokyo Olympic Stadium with a broad smile (under the mask).
