The German Olympic team had their first Corona case on the evening of the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Summer Games.

As the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) announced on Friday, the cyclist Simon Geschke tested positive for the virus.

The 35-year-old was initially positive in the daily antigen test, a subsequent PCR test verified the result.

Geschke should have started the road race on Saturday.

“It's really tough to be taken out of the race so shortly before the competition.

I have complied with all hygiene rules to the best of my knowledge and belief, ”said Geschke.

“I feel good physically, but emotionally it's a very black day for me.

The only thing left for me to do now is to wish the guys a strong race. "

The start of Geschke's room colleague Emanuel Buchmann is still open.

The Ravensburger has to undergo further PCR tests according to the regulations and can start with a negative result.

The other starters Nikias Arndt and Maximilian Schachmann have been given the go-ahead for the 234-kilometer race on Saturday.

Schachmann traveled to the summer games with the clear goal of medal.

The cyclists are accommodated a good 100 kilometers west of Tokyo on Mount Fuji.

The antigen tests were negative for all other athletes and supervisors in addition to gifts.

The German Olympic team consists of 432 athletes.

Since July 1, more than 100 foreign athletes and coaches have tested positive for the corona virus at the Summer Games in Tokyo.

According to the rules, they are isolated in Japan.

Because of the corona pandemic, strict rules of conduct apply to all athletes and Olympic participants.

Spectators are excluded from the arenas.
