According to Kyodo News, the Ugandan Embassy in Japan issued a statement on the 21st stating that the Ugandan male athletes who were missing during their stay in Izumisano City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan, and were later controlled by the police in Yokkaichi, Mie County, will return home on the 21st.

Currently, it is coordinating with relevant Japanese departments.

The Ugandan male athlete who was missing is weightlifter Julius Sechtorek, who is 20 years old.

He arrived in Japan on June 19 and disappeared on July 16.

On July 20, he was found by the police in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture.

In addition to Sechtoreko, the remaining eight members of the Ugandan Olympic delegation left their dormitories in Izumisano City on the 20th for the Olympic Village.

According to a Japanese TV station, several sources in the Japanese government revealed that Sechi Toreco expressed his interest in applying for refugee status.

At present, the staff of the Ugandan Embassy are trying to persuade him to return home spontaneously, but once the refugee application is formally submitted, even if Sechtoreko's visa expires and he is in a state of illegal stay, he cannot be forcibly repatriated in principle.
