It should be the party in Furiani on Saturday at 3 p.m., for the return to professional level of SC Bastia, after four years of purgatory among amateurs.

But this Thursday, two days before the first day of Ligue 2 against Nîmes, it is time for concern within the most popular club in Corsica, against the backdrop of the coronavirus epidemic.

"We want to be there, it's bubbling, but the preparation has gone wonderfully, as much for two or three days, we have had problems: we have a lot of suspected cases, compared to the Covid, so we are very very annoyed, said coach Mathieu Chabert at a press conference.

We all tested each other this morning, we surely have positive cases that will happen.

"We are waiting for the results of the tests," he explained.

But there is a big concern ”as to whether the club will be able to have 18 players.

According to the coach, about half of the SC Bastia workforce has received two doses of the vaccine and a large part of the other half has been vaccinated once and is due to receive a second dose in early August.

"But there are three or four that are not vaccinated, and as luck would have it, these are the suspected cases," lamented Mathieu Chabert.

A "fairly significant increase" in cases around Bastia

Announcing the experimental and anticipated deployment from Friday of the health pass in a few establishments in Haute-Corse, Balagne and Saint-Florent, the prefect of the department François Ravier also spoke on Wednesday of a "fairly significant increase in the number of cases [of Covid- 19] in the Bastia region, from half of Cap Corse to the south of Bastia ”.
