Bundesliga relegated Schalke 04 goes to a quarantine training camp a few days before the start of the second division.

As the club announced, the suspicion of corona with goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann had previously been confirmed by a PCR test.

Ferryman gave the club his consent to make the case public.

"Ralf Fährmann is the one who has been infected with Corona," confirmed sports director Rouven Schröder at a virtual media appointment on Tuesday: "Ralf ordered in writing that I can talk about it." The goalkeeper is "not bad". Another series of quick tests will be carried out on the team on Tuesday. Replacement should come before the game on Friday if possible. "We want to react in the short term before Hamburg," said Schröder about the failure: "At the start against HSV, we can't leave anything to chance".

Schalke had previously announced that they would go “to a voluntary quarantine training camp” “to prevent possible chains of infection and thus also to protect the families of the players and staff”. Head of Sports Communication Marc Siekmann announced that the team would stay in the training camp until Friday and only arrive for the game. The league opening game against Hamburger SV on Friday (8.30 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the second division as well as on Sat.1 and Sky) was not at risk, the club had announced. Schröder also assumes "that the game will take place".

On Monday, Schalke canceled his afternoon training due to a positive rapid test.

"The daily series of tests will of course continue in line with the DFL's hygiene concept, the strictest protective measures apply," it said.

Schalke will "of course immediately and completely implement all orders from the authorities".

All other rapid tests had given negative results.

According to the German Football League (DFL), quarantine training camps are used to ensure that the game can be played.

This measure had been ordered for the last two match days of both professional leagues in the preseason, for example.

Players, coaching team and support staff are therefore only allowed to have contact with one another.

After leaving the "bubble", strict test requirements apply to re-entry.
