Tokyo police announced on Sunday the arrest of an Uzbek working at a special Olympics site after he was accused of rape by a woman who also works for the Olympic Games Committee, which opens next Friday.


The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department said the Uzbek, a university student named Davronbek Rachmatlayev, raped the victim in her 20s on Friday evening, without specifying the location.


According to local media, the suspect recognized the Japanese woman during the day and assaulted her near the spectators' bench in the Olympic Stadium after they watched a rehearsal for the opening ceremony of the 2020 Olympics.


The Kyodo News Agency stated that both of them work part-time in the framework of organizing the Olympics and worked in the stadium. before watching the rehearsal.


On Friday, the opening ceremony of the Games, which was postponed for a year due to the Corona epidemic, will be held.


Organizers were forced to prevent spectators from attending all Olympic events in the Japanese capital, including the opening ceremony.


The Olympic Stadium (68,000 seats) will also be used for the closing ceremony, as well as for athletics and some football matches.
