Cambage, four times selected in the All Star team in the North American professional basketball league WNBA, has publicly stated that she suffers from mental illness.

Given what awaits during the Olympics, she is worried about her well-being and therefore chooses to give up the games.

- I have been very worried about going into a "bubble" in the Olympics.

No family.

No friends.

No fans.

No support system outside my team.

It's honestly scary to me.

- I can not compete at world elite level if I suffer from panic attacks, can not sleep or eat.

- It breaks my heart to announce that I am withdrawing from the Olympics, but I think it is best for "Opals" and myself, says Cambage, who has previously participated in two Olympics.

Ian Chesterman, Australia's head of mission, says he understands Cambage's decision.

- Liz has contributed greatly to the Australian Olympic team during two Olympic campaigns.

We respect her decision and wish her well again.

With Campage in the team, Australia took bronze in London in 2012. She is the second basketball player from the country to choose not to travel to Tokyo due to concerns about mental well-being.

In June, Ryan Broekhoff, NBA player in the Dallas Mavericks, chose to say no.
