An Arab country is applying to organize the 2030 World Cup in partnership with a European country

The British newspaper, The Athletic, reported today, Friday, that Saudi Arabia and Italy are considering submitting a joint file to organize the FIFA World Cup in 2030, to be the first World Cup in history to be organized between two continents.

The Saudi-Italian file will face fierce competition from a joint file between England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, as well as another strong file that brings together Spain and Portugal, at a time when Uruguay seeks to organize the World Cup to celebrate the centenary of the first tournament it hosted in 1930.

The newspaper pointed out that the International Football Association “FIFA” encourages the joint organization files to host the World Cup because it reduces the financial burden of hosting the global event, especially with the increase of the teams participating in the World Cup to 48 teams that will play 80 matches starting from the 2026 edition, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico .

The International Football Association "FIFA" had agreed to study a Saudi proposal to hold the FIFA World Cup for men and women every two years, instead of the current system of holding the competition every 4 years, after the members of the FIFA Congress voted during the meeting of its 71st General Assembly on the 21st. From last May, the Saudi proposal won 166 votes in favor, while 22 votes were not in favor.
