The Swedish handball masters have landed in Tokyo and are getting ready to enter the tournament.

They have a World Cup silver in their backs and national team captain Glenn Solberg hopes that they will be able to recreate the performances from those championships.

But with many good teams in place and they will take one match at a time, according to the national team captain.

- We know that there are extremely many talented and good teams that are here and we know from the World Cup that there are small margins.

There are eight good teams here that can win the Olympics, and we are one of them.

But we are very humble and know that we are in a process and can lose to anyone and can also be good to all the best, says Glenn Solberg.

The keys to success

According to Solberg, one of the keys to achieving success is to find your way back to the defensive game that the team had during the World Cup.

- We conceded 24 goals on average and that is very good statistics.

Finding back to the compact and aggressive defense with that intensity is important so we can create many good / successful counterattacks and get simple goals, he says.

Offensively, the key will be to continue to hold the collective line, but above all - play for each other.

- We have to play with the whole team.

Keep the width, get out in the width of the track so we also create opportunities in the middle.

And then as always, stand up for each other, put the team in front of themselves.

Always think of the team first and fight for each other, says Solberg.

Premiere match

In a few days, a training match against Norway awaits, which gives the team a chance to get into the match tempo before the premiere match.

- It is a very good opportunity for us to play into what we want and get to practice what we need against a very good opponent.

It will be fun to see how we start against Norway.

We get to drive through what we want in all phases and get match tempo into the body, he says.

Sweden enters the tournament on July 24 in the premiere match against Bahrain.

The atmosphere in the team is good and Glenn Solberg is looking forward to his first Olympics together with the Swedish men.

- Exciting! It's going to be fun and I'm looking forward to it. I hope we can get a good start that we can take with us into the rest of the tournament, Solberg concludes.
