Federer sells his belongings to raise money for his charitable foundation

Christie's auction house in London announced today that Swiss tennis player Roger Federer has raised millions for his charity by selling his antiques.

Christie's reported that the auction was held on June 23 and then online, to raise three million, 392 thousand and 875 pounds (four million 689 thousand and 316 dollars), as the equipment sold included the tennis racket from the 2007 Wimbledon final against Rafael Nadal and the shoes he wore when he was crowned. His only title in the French Open was in 2009.

The Federer Foundation supports educational projects for disadvantaged children in Africa and his country of Switzerland.

Federer, 39, won 20 titles in the four Grand Slam tournaments, jointly with Nadal and Novak Djokovic, but he was eliminated from the last edition of Wimbledon from the quarter-finals and withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics due to knee problems.
