The Spanish summer heat is holding Sweden in its grip.

And over Borgholm on Öland, the sun is blazing both on the birthday child Crown Princess Victoria and on this year's Victoria winner, the skater Nils van der Poel.

On Wednesday, he met the press.

He chose to arrive by parachute despite the fact that the jumper family is saddened by the tragic plane crash in Örebro recently, in which nine people died.

- It is heavy in many ways.

Parachute Sweden is very tight.

People who have meant a lot to me have disappeared, he says.

"Worth so much"

He is clearly moved and sits quietly for a while when he thinks about what happened.

But he still does not hesitate to continue jumping.

During the week, Småland's parachute club has a jumping week based on the Borglanda airport outside Borgholm.

And with some other jumpers, Nils van der Poel threw himself from an altitude of 1,500 meters and landed on the eighteenth green Ekerums Resort south of Borgholm.

- It is clear that you once again think about the decisions you have made when you are reminded of its consequences, says Nils van der Poel.

But the positives of skydiving outweigh.

- The people I have in my life thanks to jumping and what jumping has contributed is worth so much, he says.

Have considered the risks

He also thinks that one should put what has happened in a perspective.

- There has not been a parachute accident, there has been a plane crash.

And it's our means of transportation to get up.

We who jump know that we jump out of planes.

It is a risk that I have considered.

But it is no more dangerous to parachute today than it was two weeks ago.

Now the day continues with meetings with the royal family before it ends with an award ceremony at the Victoria Concert in Borgholm's castle ruins during the evening.
