The Olympic torch relay in Tokyo has been suspended on public roads in most areas, but will run on public roads on the islands from the 15th.

The Tokyo Olympic Games Holy Fire Relay, which has been held in Tokyo since the 9th of this month, has been suspended on public roads in most areas due to the spread of the new coronavirus.

The relay will enter the islands from the 15th of the 7th day, and runners will run on public roads for the first time in Tokyo.

Miyake Village, Kozushima Village, Niijima Village, and Toshima Village will run on the 15th.

Currently, a state of emergency has been declared in Tokyo, but this is the first time in Japan that a relay will be held on public roads in the area where the declaration is issued.

Regarding the implementation on the islands, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Games Organizing Committee explained that the infection situation was relatively calm and that the measures were taken thoroughly.

Specifically, given that the medical system is vulnerable, all staff members were inspected before entering the island, and the islanders are encouraged to use relays to prevent crowds along the road.

On the other hand, in Oshima Town, where the cluster was confirmed earlier this month, the relay on public roads will be canceled, and a "torch kiss" will be held in which only the people concerned participate and the runners connect the torch.
