The European Championship final between Italy and England was decided by a penalty shootout.

The 23-year-old striker, who was substituted in extra time, was given the task of taking care of one of the penalties.

He missed.

Now the English striker apologizes in a long text on social media.

"I do not know where to start and I do not know how to put into words how I feel right now.

I have had a difficult season and I think everyone has understood that I went into the European Championships with poorer self-confidence ", he writes.

Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho and Rashford missed the penalties for England and Italy took European Championship gold.

"It feels like I have let my teammates down.

I have let everyone down.

I can put a penalty in my sleep so why could I not put this?

I have played the situation over and over in my head over and over again.

There are no words to describe how it feels ”.

Rashford concludes by paying tribute to his teammates.

“This summer has been one of the best camps I have experienced.

A community has been built that is impossible to break.

Your success is mine.

Your failure is mine ”.
