In front of the screens of the bars, the Romans held their breath until the last second and the victorious stop of Gianluigi Donnarumma.

53 years after its first coronation, Italy is European champion.

And after a tense and long undecided match, some were struggling to recover.

"It's the best day of my life. It's an indescribable emotion. We fought to the end against the big teams", ignites a tifosi met by Europe 1.

"We deserve the victory"

In the streets of Rome, in the historic squares of the capital, between songs, smoke and improvised fireworks, thousands of Italians went out to celebrate and savor this long-awaited victory until the early hours of the morning. "We deserve the victory, because we do not have the best team, but we have the best group", rejoices Mattéo. "And after two years robbed by the pandemic, what is beautiful is that football brings us all together to party."

And too bad for the Covid. In Rome, crisscrossed by police lines, nothing could have spoiled this celebration. One month after the opening of the Euro in the capital, the circle has come full circle with Italy, which offers itself the second title of European champion in its history and signs its return to the forefront by finishing in style.
