Penalties decided many matches in the European Football Championship, the latest of which was the final match on Sunday between England and Italy, which witnessed the continuation of the common mistake as “penalty kicks” even at the level of experts and football stars.

Some commentators and analysts described the "penalty" kicks from the penalty mark as penalty kicks, including Mohamed Aboutrika, the star of the Egyptian national team and the former Al-Ahly club and an analyst on beIN Sports channels.

This is among some of the common mistakes that analysts and commentators make because they do not know much about football law.

There is a big difference between penalty kicks and penalty kicks, the most important of which, in short, is that the penalty kick is calculated during the match as a “penalty” for any player who commits a violation that requires a direct free kick against him inside his penalty area or on the line he determines.

As for the penalty kicks, the referee resorts to weighting one team over another and deciding the outcome of the match after both competing teams failed to resolve it during the playing time, whether the original or extra time.

So when we say about the penalty kick, this is a huge mistake;

Because it is not a penalty for a mistake, but rather to tip the balance of one team over another.

The International Legislative Council (IFAP) allocated Article 15 of the Football Law - which contains 17 articles - to the penalty kick only, without addressing in any way the penalty kicks because of their great difference.

The football law was satisfied with clarifying the kicks from the penalty mark (penalty) within Article 10 (determining the outcome of the match).

Perhaps the link between them, which is their implementation of the penalty kick, is what makes some confuse them in the name.
