The

Australian Formula 1

and

MotoGP

Grand Prix

have been canceled for the second consecutive year due to the country's strict border controls due to the increase in coronavirus infections in the country, according to the organizers.

"We regret to announce that the

2021 Australian Grand Prix

has been canceled due to restrictions and logistical challenges related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic," the organizers said in a statement.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation

President

Paul Little said in a statement that he was "deeply disappointed".

"We understand

the challenge Australia faces

with current international travel restrictions and the importance of vaccinations."

The Australian round of

the MotoGP world championship

, scheduled for Phillip Island on October 24, was also canceled for the second year in a row.

"The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting travel complications and logistical restrictions mean that it has not been possible to confirm the viability of the event at this time and therefore it will not be on the 2021 calendar," the organizers said .
