Backlash:
Italy left-back Leonardo Spinazzola has been one of the team's best players in the tournament, but in the quarter-final against Belgium, the adventure ended.
The 28-year-old was badly injured in a run and was carried out on a stretcher, after which the Italian federation then went out and confirmed that he had torn his hamstring.
Historical meetings:
Italy – Spain is a match that arouses emotions in many. Not least with the Spanish national team captain Luis Enrique who had his nose broken in the quarter-final loss in the 1994 World Cup. When the antagonists met again in the European Championship final in 2012, Spain won 4-0 in a show so dominant that Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas asked the referee to blow off the match. Italy got revenge in the European Championship 2016 when a team led by Antonio Conte beat the Spaniards in the quarterfinals through a well-deserved 2-0 victory.
Record hunt:
Italy has received a real boost since Roberto Mancini took over the helm in 2018. The victory against Belgium means 32 straight games without a loss and Italy is now only three games away from touching the current record of 35 games without a loss held by Spain (2007– 2009) and Brazil (1993–1996).
This is how it went in the quarter finals:
Italy beat Belgium after a swinging match that ended 2-1 to "Gli Azzurri".
Spain moved on after a penalty drama against the barking gang Switzerland.
Mikel Oyarzabal set the decisive penalty that meant the semifinals.
This is what happens in the final: The
winner of the match will face the winner of the semi-final between England and Denmark, which will be played on Wednesday.
