A new coach for the Syrian national team within hours

A member of the Syrian Football Association and head of the National Teams Committee, Abdul Qader Kardaghli, confirmed that after 72 hours, the new coach of the Syrian national team will be announced, the successor to the Tunisian Nabil Maaloul, who has resigned from his position.

Kurdaghli's statement came after an extended meeting of the Football Association, which lasted about four hours, during which several issues were discussed, including the selection of the supposed land on which the team will play its home matches in the decisive third round qualifying for the 2022 World Cup

. Kurdaghli indicated that the new coach will be one of three local coaches, without mentioning Their names, and he said: "We chose three local trainers out of eight candidates, and they will be addressed to know their conditions and other matters, and one of them will be chosen after 72 hours."

Kurdaghli added: "Several Arab countries will be addressed to host our national team as an alternative land for it, namely Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain."

It is noteworthy that the International and Asian Football Federations banned the holding of official matches in continental and international tournaments in Syria about ten years ago due to the crisis in the country.

And Syria fell in Group A in the decisive third round of qualifying for the World Cup, along with the teams of Iran, South Korea, the Emirates, Iraq and Lebanon.

Maaloul had confirmed that he had officially submitted his resignation from coaching the Syrian national team, which was not the result of the moment, and that he had been free of any association with the Syrian Football Association since last April.

Despite Syria's top position in its group and its qualification to the Asian Cup finals and to the decisive third round of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, Firas Moalla, head of the General Sports Federation, criticized the level of the team and demanded Maaloul to resign because he "did not provide any addition to the team."

The Syrian Football Association had contracted with Maaloul in March 2020 for one million euros, with 280,000 euros to be paid upon signing the contract, and the rest in installments of up to thirty thousand euros per month with other additions, including a bonus of 83 thousand euros when the team qualified for the next stage of the double qualifiers. However, the Syrian Football Association was unable to pay Maaloul's accumulated salaries due to the seizure of his frozen funds in the International and Asian Federations, in implementation of Caesar's sanctions.

Maaloul received the training of the Syrian national team, succeeding the local coach, Fajr Ibrahim, who achieved five consecutive victories in the double qualifiers, and left Maaloul to complete the qualifiers in the remaining matches against the Maldives, Guam and China.
