Lucas Hernandez, injured against Portugal in the French team's third match at Euro 2020, underwent meniscus surgery.

The left side defender, 2018 world champion with the Blues, missed the round of 16 lost against Switzerland on penalties.

French defender Lucas Hernandez, injured in his left knee during the Euro with the Blues, underwent meniscus surgery, his club, Bayern Munich, announced on Sunday in a statement.

"Lucas Hernandez was operated successfully on his left knee. The French international tore his medial meniscus during the European Championship," said the Bavarian club.

Absent against Switzerland

Preserved during the second match of the French team at the Euro against Hungary, the 2018 world champion was released at half-time against Portugal.

Lucas Hernandez (28 caps) then did not play a minute during the elimination in the round of 16 against Switzerland (1-1 ap, 5-4 tab).

His absence and that of Lucas Digne at the left-back position, had been filled by a repositioning of Adrien Rabiot. The duration of his unavailability has not been specified.
