Borussia Dortmund once again loses an actually indispensable key player, but once again makes a big profit.

Both clubs informed about the "fundamental agreement" on the change of Jadon Sancho to the English football record champions Manchester United this Wednesday.

The English record champions will pay “a fixed transfer fee of 85.0 million euros,” said Borussia's mandatory announcement to the stock exchange.

“The player Jadon Sancho (“ Player ”) is about to move from Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA (“ BVB ”) to Manchester United Football Club Limited (“ Manchester United ”).

Both clubs and the player reached an agreement on this today, ”said the listed club.

The contractual details have yet to be agreed and documented.

"The formal processing of the transfer is also subject to the successful completion of all necessary medical tests and examinations, a coordination procedure with the player's previous club and the proper and timely processing in accordance with the provisions of the FIFA Transfer Matching System (FIFA TMS)", it went on.

Manchester United was already close to a commitment from Sancho last summer, but did not want to pay the 120 million euros required by BVB at the time.

The previous record transfer was Ousmane Dembélé, for whom FC Barcelona paid a total of around 135 million euros to the Revierklub.

According to reports, BVB has to pay 15 percent of the amount for Sancho to his former club Manchester City.

According to media reports, the 21-year-old England international, who so far only had a six-minute short stint at the European Championship, will receive a five-year contract until the summer of 2026. He moved from Manchester City to Dortmund in 2017 for around 7.5 million euros and still had a contract until including June 30, 2023 in Dortmund.

Borussia has once again lost one of its stars such as Roman Lewandowski (2014 / Bayern Munich), Ilkay Gündogan (2016 / Manchester City), Dembélé (2017) or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (2018 / Arsenal FC).

In the Bundesliga, Sancho scored 38 goals in 104 games and made 51 assists.

In order to compensate for the sporting loss, the Champions League participant will invest part of the transfer proceeds in a successor.

The last candidate was the 19-year-old Sancho compatriot Noni Madueke from the Dutch first division team PSV Eindhoven.

In addition, the proceeds for Sancho help BVB to offset a loss of 75 million euros that the club expects due to the corona pandemic.

The Revierklub, known for its excellent talent development, turned out to be a good choice for Sancho. For example, the London-born at the end of November 2019 was voted second place behind João Félix (Atlético Madrid) in the Golden Boy election for the best U21 player in Europe in 2019. In addition, as the youngest player to date, he scored his 25th Bundesliga goal on matchday 20 of the 2019/20 season against 1. FC Union Berlin at the age of 19 years and 312 days.
