The former Allsvenskan football player was charged with having received a yellow card on purpose in a match in the Allsvenskan.

In exchange, he had to borrow SEK 300,000.

When the verdict was handed down in Malmö District Court a few weeks ago, the accused was acquitted on all counts.

Yesterday, the time to file an appeal against the verdict expired.

And the prosecution has chosen to appeal the verdict to the Court of Appeal.

- We have appealed that part about the yellow card.

We want the Court of Appeal to change that and hold the person responsible, says prosecutor Staffan Edlund to SVT Sport.

Why do you choose to appeal the verdict?

- We think the district court's evaluation of evidence was not correct in this case and therefore should be changed in the Court of Appeal.

"Would not appeal if there was no possibility of a change"

Prosecutor Edlund demanded a suspended sentence and a daily fine for the football player, who in recent years has played in foreign clubs.

The ex-Allsvenskan player denied the accusations.

“The district court's conclusion is that the circumstances with a certain probability indicate that an agreement on a loan was reached against the football player acting in a certain way in the upcoming match and that the bettors would thus win money through cheating.

However, with regard to the defendants' explanations and the investigation in the case, the district court cannot draw a sufficiently certain conclusion ", the district court wrote in its decision.

Staffan Edlund now believes that the verdict can be changed when it is taken up in the Court of Appeal.

- I would not appeal if I did not think it was possible to get a change in the verdict, he says.
