Fernandinho stays with Manchester City for one more year

Manchester City, the English Premier League champions, announced today that its midfielder and captain Fernandinho, 36, has extended his contract for an additional year. "In my mind and my mind, I feel like I haven't done the work, that's why I decided to stay here for an extra year in order to help the club achieve the goals it set," said the Brazilian, who will remain with his team until 2022.

Fernandinho hopes to lead "Citizens" to win the Champions League after he was close to achieving his dream last season, before he failed against his compatriot Chelsea in the final, losing 0-1 on May 29 in Porto.

And the player, who was a reserve in front of the "Blues", continued: "If I can, on or off the field, help them develop and be better, I will be the happiest of men."

Fernandinho joined Manchester City in 2013 from Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine, and played 350 matches and won 12 titles for the Manchester City club, including 4 titles in the Premier League.

"Fernandinho's contribution is invaluable. He is a fantastic footballer and one of the best players in the world in his position. He is an exemplary professional," City's Spanish director of football Txiki Begiristian said.
