At the American Olympic competitions last night, Swedish time, a sprint star secured his place in Tokyo.

35-year-old Allyson Felix finished second in the 400 meters at Hayward Field, Eugene.

This after a riot drama, where she was four from lane eight - but managed to get past both Kendall Ellis and Wadeline Jonathas.

And ran over the finish line in his season-best time of 50.02, Quanera Hayes won at 49.78.

- It was a struggle to get here.

And one thing I can do is fight, and I really wanted to do that all the way, Allyson Felix told NBC after the race.

Six Olympic golds

Later this week, Felix will also run in the competitions to 200 meters, but due to the setup in Tokyo she can only participate in either 400 or 200 meters.

Felix has won six gold and three silver medals at the four previous Olympic Games she has participated in. At London 2012, she took her only individual gold so far, 200 meters.
