Italy came into the game with a really rotated starting eleven when they replaced eight players before the match against Wales.

However, it would not matter, as they could still win with a comfortable 1-0 and thus secured the group victory.

It was also the blue-clad people who took the initiative immediately.

Federico Chiesa, who was sent off during the first two games, immediately set the pace of the attacking play and was constantly a threatening offensive.

Another who started in a good mood in Italy was Torino striker Andrea Belotti.

Halfway into the first half, he got an input from Federico Bernardeschi, but outside that time.

Minutes later it went the other way.

Wales player Chris Gunter reached the top corner, but the midfielder failed to score.

The press paid off instead of "Gli Azzuri".

Matteo Pessina kept his cool as he faced down Italy, making the score 0 - 1 after 39 minutes.

Nice start in others

The four-time world champions got off to as good a start in the second half as the first.

Federico Bernardeschi got the chance for a free kick from distance - and responded with a heavy shot that hit the post.

Welsh nightmare minutes followed.

Ethan Ampadu carelessly entered into a duel with the just mentioned free kick shooter, punched the Italian badly and was sent off.

Then it was Italy for the money and Wales, for obvious reasons, had a hard time creating anything.

Takes second place

Italian national team captain Roberto Mancini's men have started with three straight wins and zero goals conceded.

Wales take second place in Group A, despite losing.

Switzerland ends up in third place and has a chance to advance as one of the four best three.
