Shot putter Ryan Crouser from the USA has pulverized the world record, which is more than three decades old.

At the national Olympic trials in Eugene / Oregon, the Rio Olympic champion surpassed the old record of his compatriot Randy Barnes from 1990 by 25 centimeters with a sensational 23.37 meters.

Since 1996 no world record in any of the four pushing and throwing disciplines had been improved for men. For women, too, the records with the ball and the disc come from the eighties, the heyday of anabolic steroids doping. The top marks with the hammer and the spear, however, are much younger there: Women's hammer throwing is a very young discipline, the current women's javelin was only introduced in 1999.
