"Dubai Knights" aspire to the fourth title in the Champions Clubs

The "Emirates" basket with the slogan "Shabab Al-Ahly" requests the sixth successive achievement in the Gulf

The Gulf Basketball Champions Championship in its 40th edition, extending to June 26, will start today, at five in the afternoon, at the Shabab Al-Ahly Club hall in Dubai, in an exceptional version that requires the Emirati clubs, represented by the “Basketball Knights”, to achieve an achievement. Unprecedented in the history of the tournament, and won the sixth title in a row, after the "Knights" trilogy between 2015 and 2017, and the Sharjah double in the last two editions 2018 and 2019.

The UAE and Saudi clubs share the leadership of the most Gulf clubs that have won successive titles, after Al Hilal won the 1996 edition, and was followed by a successive quartet of the Jeddah Union between 1997 and 2000.

The 40th edition also bears legitimate ambitions for “Al-Ahly Youth” to gift the Emirates basket its eighth title in history, after the first Gulf titles came with the Al-Wahda logo in 1993, followed by Al-Shabab Club (formerly) in the 2011 edition, but the ambitions of the Dubai Knights collide with the presence of victory Saudi Arabia, Bahrain's Al-Ahly, Kuwait's Al-Kuwait, and the Qatari North, which have equal chances of competing for the title.

The tournament also represents an opportunity for victory to hijack its first Gulf achievement, and to confirm Saudi leadership at the level of the clubs most crowned with the championship titles, after the previous versions recorded that Saudi clubs won 12 titles, 10 of which came equally between the teams of Uhud and Al Ittihad Jeddah between 1980 and 2005, in addition to the Al Hilal double in 1992 and 1996 editions.

In turn, Al-Kuwait Al-Kuwait aspires to his second title after the 2003 edition, and the Kuwaiti basketball gifted its ninth achievement, after the Al-Qadisiyah titles between 1982 and 2009, and the Kazma trio of years (1981-1989-1990).

With the ambition of the ninth title as well, the Al-Shamal team hopes for a first Gulf achievement for the club, adding its name to the list of Qatari teams crowned with the title, after the Al Rayyan quintet between 2002 and 2012, the Al-Sadd double (2013-2014), and a single title for Al Arabi in the 2008 edition.

Al-Ahly of Bahrain is seeking to add its third title, after the double (1985 and 1988), and grant Bahrain the fifth title in history, after the Manama team also won the double (1995 and 2001).
