The activist flew over the Allianz Arena in Munich on Tuesday night and lost control of his motorized paraglider when he hooked up to TV cables and crashed into the stands.

He then landed in the grass at the French replacement bench where he could be arrested by police.

According to the German police, at least two people have suffered head injuries in connection with the crash and both have been taken to hospital, but it is unclear how serious the situation is.

- The Munich police have zero understanding of political actions that put lives in danger, says a press spokesperson.

A statement from the European Football Association (UEFA) said: "This careless act - which could have serious consequences for a large number of people on the ground - injured several people who are now in hospital and authorities will take the necessary action.

"Activist protests against carmaker Volkswagen, one of the sponsors of the European Football Championship," Greenpeace explained in a post on Twitter

The activist organization further writes that the purpose was not to harm anyone.

"This protest was never meant to interrupt the match or injure people.

We hope that everyone is okay and that no one is seriously injured ".
