Liverpool get permission to redevelop Anfield stadium

Liverpool managing director Andy Hughes has hailed the huge step in obtaining planning permission for the redevelopment of Anfield.

The city council's planning committee voted 6-2 in favor of the 7,000-seat development, bringing Anfield's capacity to 61,000, although citizens and environmental groups have expressed concern about the impact of the move on nearby Stanley Park.

The work includes converting the existing runway to the Anfield stadium, turning around the edge of the park, and then building behind the existing stands with the aim of joining the old buildings to the new ones during the off season.

The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2023, and Hughes was quoted by British news agency (PA Media) as saying, "It is a huge step in our journey towards bringing more fans to Anfield."
