Former German road cycling champion Maximilian Schachmann has probably lost his chances of overall victory in the 85th Tour de Suisse.

Born in Berlin, he only finished 13th in the difficult individual time trial over 23.2 kilometers from Disentis Sedrun to Andermatt on Saturday.

At the finish he was 1:23 minutes behind the Colombian winner of the day Rigoberto Uran.

Schachmann slipped from third to fourth place in the overall standings, now 1:07 minutes behind the leader Richard Carapaz.

The former Giro d'Italia champion Carapaz successfully defended his yellow jersey by finishing fourth.

The man from Ecuador is now 17 seconds ahead of uranium, which dominated the individual time trial over the Oberalp Pass.

World champion Julian Alaphilippe also knew how to convince behind uranium.

The Frenchman finished second 40 seconds back and moved up to third in the overall standings, 39 seconds behind.

The tour ends on Sunday with the difficult mountain stage around Andermatt.

Two passes of the first and one of the highest category have to be mastered on the 159.5 kilometers.
