  The Weightlifting Soft Center attaches great importance to the selection of the national weightlifting team for the Tokyo Olympics. In 2018, after soliciting the opinions of the national team for many times, combining past experience and the actual weightlifting events of the current Olympic Games, and soliciting opinions from various provinces and cities, formulating the "Weightlifting Project Tokyo Olympic Games" "Athlete Selection Method for Participation".

A weightlifting project selection working group was established in early 2019, with Wu Shude, a famous weightlifter and China's first weightlifting world champion, as the selection working group leader, and began this work.

  The selection work is based on the principles of fairness, impartiality and openness, strictly follows the selection methods, and proceeds in an orderly manner in accordance with the selection process.

Taking into full consideration the situation of major international opponents, the training level of athletes, competition results, success rate, competition experience and psychology, weight and injuries and other factors, a comprehensive evaluation was carried out, and the list of 8 participants was finally determined.

The list of Chinese weightlifting teams is as follows:

  Men's team: Li Fabin (61kg class), Chen Lijun (67kg class), Shi Zhiyong (73kg class), Lv Xiaojun (81kg class);

  Women's team: Hou Zhihui (49kg level), Liao Qiuyun (55kg level), Wang Zhouyu (87kg level), Li Wenwen (+87kg level).

  The one-year postponement of the Tokyo Olympics has brought many difficulties to the preparations. The national weightlifting team actively responded, overcome the difficulties, reduced adverse interference, and maintained the stability and continuous development of the team.

The athletes of the Chinese weightlifting team in this Olympic Games are old and new, with veterans and newcomers taking the lead. Among them, the oldest player, Lu Xiaojun, is 37 years old, and the youngest player, Li Wenwen, is only 21 years old.

  Due to the limitation of 8 people participating in the Tokyo Olympics in weightlifting, some outstanding athletes on the national weightlifting team regret not being selected, such as the 2019 World Championships champion, men's 96kg clean and jerk world record holder Tian Tao, Rio Olympic champion, 2018 And Deng Wei, the champion of the 2019 World Championships and the women's 64kg world record holder, were not selected for this selection due to injury.
