The 38-year-old Briton finished eighth in the European Cup in Birmingham in the time of 27.50.54, which was 22 seconds over the qualifying time.

He was also beaten by compatriot Marc Scott by half a second.

Afterwards, Farah, who has won 5,000 and 10,000 meters in the last two Olympic Games, said that he was bothered by a foot injury.

- I am disappointed with the result.

The last ten days I have trained very well but it does not matter if I can not perform in the qualifying competitions, says Farah to the BBC.

The qualifying period ends on 28 June

Farah has until June 28 to pass the qualifying limit of 27.28.00, where even 5000 meters can be included in the reasoning.

The BBC speculates that Farah's poor formality could end in him deciding to quit earlier than planned, which was originally intended to happen after the Tokyo Games.

The race in Birmingham, which was won by the Frenchman Morhad Amdouni in 27.23,39, was Farah's first in the 10,000 meters since the World Championship title in London 2017. In recent years he has focused on marathons.
