Petter Menning was only 15 hundredths of a gold from the ultimate sprint distance in canoeing, which only takes 35 seconds to paddle.

It always gets razor sharp in the finish line and when the canoeists crossed the finish line, the graphics in the TV box showed that the Swede was first.

However, after reviewing the goal photo, the victory went to the Hungarian Sandor Totka, with the British Liam Heath in second place.

The bronze for Olympic-ready Menning is a proof that the Swede is on his way back and will be a medal jumper in Tokyo.

He won World Cup gold in the distance in 2013 and has also won several medals in the European Championships and European Games before.

He also paddled in the 2016 Olympics, where he missed the final and finished tenth.

In recent years, Menning has suffered injuries, but it was a sixth place at the WC 2019, before last year's season was spoiled due to the pandemic.
