The Tokyo Olympics are less than two months away.

The championship will be Tomas Axnér's first as the national team captain for the women's national handball team, but he has already gained experience in the form of a European Championship.

- If you look at Swedish women's handball, since I took over, we have played a European Championship where we would have liked a better result, but then we have qualified for both the World Cup and the Olympics.

It feels like we have developed and taken steps towards the Olympics.

A tough task, but inspiring, says Axnér.

But the draw was anything but a simple task - on paper - when you face Brazil, France, Hungary, Russia and Spain.

- There are four teams that advance to the quarterfinals, and there are three teams that we have every opportunity to beat a good day.

But we need to succeed with that to preferably take a third place, because then you do not have to face the best team on the other side, he says and believes that two out of three gold candidates are found in Sweden's group:

- Russia and France are potential gold winners ... together with Norway, then.

"Incredible pride"

Before the Olympic squad is taken out on June 18, the national team travels to Spain and Playitas for a week's SOK camp.

You go there with 22 selected players, but it will be significantly reduced before leaving for Japan.

- We go with fourteen players and two reserves, but we need quite a few players on the boat if something happens to the other players.

One of the players who will go to the camp at Playitas is Höör's Emma Lindqvist, who is hoping for an Olympic place.

- It is clear that it would be an incredible pride.

It is one of the biggest championships to be selected for, but you get unsure, you want it to be on June 18, the 23-year-old tells SVT.
