Mark Eaton

, the gigantic 2.24-meter center with the highest blocking average in NBA history, died Friday at age 64 after a bicycle accident.

Twice voted best defensive player in the league (1985, 1989) and once All-Star (1989), Eaton his entire career in the Utah Jazz (1982-1993), under the orders of the remembered

Frank Layden

and

Jerry Sloan

.

According to the first information, the former Jazz player had left his home at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

Hours later he was found lying on the road and was taken to a hospital, although the doctors could do nothing to save his life.

Summit County (Utah) police authorities found no evidence that another vehicle was involved in the accident.

The tragic death of Eaton bears certain similarities to the bicycle accident suffered by

Shawn Bradley

, also in the state of Utah, in June 2020. The former Sixers center, of 2.29 meters, suffered serious injuries that finally left him paraplegic.
