The Dutch volleyball players will play in the group stage of the European Championship against Finland, Russia, Turkey, Spain and North Macedonia at the end of the summer.

The Orange squad will play its group games in Tampere, Finland, as it turned out at the draw in Helsinki on Thursday.

The European Championship 2021 will be played from 1 to 19 September in Poland, the Czech Republic, Estonia and Finland.

The Netherlands qualified for the European title fight two weeks ago by finishing first in a qualifying group with Croatia and Sweden.

The team of national coach Roberto Piazza is sixteenth in the world rankings.

Russia (fourth in the world and European champion in 2013 and 2017) is the strongest opponent of Orange in the group.

Turkey (22nd), Spain (33rd), Finland (36th) and North Macedonia (38th) are ranked lower than the Netherlands in the global ranking.

The top four of the four groups qualify for the eighth finals.

At the previous European Championship, which was partly held in the Netherlands in 2019, the Orange finished tenth and Serbia took the gold.

The last European Championship medal for the Dutch volleyball players dates from 1997, when the European title was captured.
