The European association UEC canceled the European track cycling championships planned for the end of June in the Belarusian capital Minsk on Thursday.

In view of the current international situation, the decision was made to take this step, the UEC announced in a statement.

Everything will now be done to find a replacement organizer for this year.

"We are now working to find an alternative," said UEC President Enrico Della Casa.

During the week, the Association of German Cyclists decided not to take part in the title fights in response to the forced landing of an airplane.

The EM should take place from June 23rd to 27th.

Germany and the Netherlands are not included

In protest against the forced landing of a passenger plane in Minsk, the Association of German Cyclists (BDR) withdrew its team from the European Championships on Tuesday.

According to the BDR, contact was made with the UEC and it was made clear that under these circumstances participation was not possible.

In addition, they pushed for an alternative solution.

On the same day, the Dutch association KNWU also announced that it would not participate in Minsk.

On Sunday, a Ryanair plane was forced to land in Minsk and a Belarusian opposition member was arrested on board. Ruler Alexander Lukashenko has come under international criticism for his brutal actions against the opposition.
